Buntu Ambassadors · 2026

Be the face of Buntu in your city.

Ambassadors run weekly cohorts, mentor students who match their path, and turn Buntu from a website into a community on the ground. One role, real responsibility, durable impact.

Why this role matters

Three principles you'll live by.

Roles over people

A cohort runs because you show up. The system is designed around the Ambassador role, not any single person — and that's exactly why your weekly presence is what makes Buntu real.

Quality before scale

No session runs without a prepared facilitator. We'd rather run fewer cohorts well than many cohorts badly. You are the guardrail.

Documented delivery

Your 10-minute weekly report is how the program learns. Attendance, what worked, what to fix — written down, every week, no exception.

What you'll actually do

A concrete week in the role.

Run one weekly cohort session (in person or online, ~90 min)

Log attendance and submit a 10-minute session report after each meeting

Be the first point of contact for ~10–25 students in your community

Flag wellbeing or safeguarding concerns to the program team

Host one community event each month (talk, watch party, study night)

Help recruit and vet the next cohort of Buntu learners

Mentor 1–2 students for free 15-minute sessions when matched

What we expect

No surprises. This is the deal.

Commitment

Minimum 6 months. Ambassadors who can't commit shouldn't apply — the cohort depends on you.

Time

~4–6 hours per week. Includes the session itself, prep, your report, and 1:1 student check-ins.

Responsiveness

Reply to students and program staff within 48 hours.

All-hands call

Mandatory monthly Ambassadors call. Non-negotiable — it's how we learn from each other.

Onboarding

Finish the Ambassador onboarding course before you activate your cohort.

Safeguarding

Sign and respect our Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policy. We hold this line.

What you get

We invest in you, too.

  • A modest monthly stipend (tiered by cohort size and tenure)
  • Mentor status unlocked automatically — your profile goes live in the directory
  • Leadership certificate from Buntu Foundation after one full cycle
  • Priority access to the Buntu Hub research residency
  • A written reference letter you can use anywhere
  • Direct line to a network of peers running cohorts across the continent

Application

Tell us about you.

We read every application. Review takes about 2 weeks. You'll hear back either way.

Common questions

FAQ.

Can high-school students apply?

No. You need to have at least reached Terminal (final year of high school) or hold the Baccalauréat. Younger students join Buntu as learners — that's the right path at that stage.

Can a mentor already become an Ambassador?

Yes. And it goes the other way too: every accepted Ambassador automatically becomes a Buntu mentor, with their profile published in the directory.

Is the stipend fixed?

It scales with cohort size and tenure. We'll share the current tier in your offer letter if accepted.

Selection timeline?

We review applications in two-week cycles. You'll get an answer either way.
